Blueberry Syrup

Why go out and buy syrup from the store that may be filled with all kinds of ingredients that we can't even pronounce, when we can make our own at home?

Syrup one of the easiest condiments to make in my opinion. Not to mention, versatile! From pancakes to coffee, syrup is always good to have on hand.

Today, I was in the mood for blueberries, but you can use whatever fruit you have on hand. This recipe really comes in handy for those days when you're trying to get rid of the old fruit in your fridge before it goes bad.

Ok, enough talking. Let's get into it.

What You'll Need (make about 1 1/2 cups):

- 1 pint fresh or frozen blueberries, washed

- 1/2 cup white or brown sugar

- 1/2 cup water

- Juice of 1 lemon (2 tbsp)

Directions:

- Pour blueberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice into a sauce pan over medium heat

- Stir to combine

- Bring mixture up to a simmer, stirring occasionally

-Once berries start to release their color and soften, begin to break up the berries with the back of a spoon or spatula

- Continue to let mixture cook for about 2 minutes

- At this point you can transfer the mixture to a bowl or jar for cooling or you can puree the mixture if you want it less chunky

- You can enjoy this syrup hot or cold
